The resounding success of Galaxy S series has made Galaxy S4 one of the most anticipated smartphones of the year. One of the most sought after pieces of information regarding this new replacement to Samsung's current flagship smartphone, Galaxy S3, is its release date. This new smartphone is expected to be fully unveiled on March 14 2013 in New York City during a 'Samsung Unpacked' event.
None of the successive Galaxy S series smartphones of the past have been the same in terms of design and the same is expected from Galaxy S4.This new handset will come in six flavors at its launch-a black and white model-each available with 16GB, 32GB or a whopping 64GB of on-board storage.
The Galaxy S4 promises an impressive and energy efficient 4.99-inch 1920x1080p FHD resolution which is slightly larger than the Galaxy S3's 4.8 inch display. It will push nearly 441 pixels-per-inch in comparison to S3's 306 ppi. It will support an AMOLED full HD display made from green PHOLED (Phosphorescent Organic Light Emitting Diodes) material which will also contribute in reducing power consumption.
Samsung used its own Exynos 4 Quad processor for Galaxy S3 which was the fastest at that time but Galaxy S4 is expected to get the Exynos 5 Octa processor. In this processor, four Cortex-A15 cores are clocked at 1.8GHz for performance while the remaining four, Cortex-A7s are clocked at 1.2GHz for less demanding tasks and power saving.
If we talk about the software, S3 is almost up-to-date in the Android world with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. While Galaxy S4 will ship with version 4.2.1,the latest update to Google's mobile operating system. It is also rumored to support Eye-tracking technology which enables you to control video playback and scroll pages simply by shifting your gaze.
The Galaxy S4 will have the ability to charge its 2,600-mAh battery wirelessly with an optional dock. Besides these, some other interesting features which make galaxy S4 stand apart from rest of the bunch are:Floating Touch, Smart Scrolling and Smart Pause. The other specifications include a 13-megapixel camera accompanied by a 2.2. Megapixel front-facing camera,a new TouchWiz interface and 4G LTE and 802.11 ac-Wi-Fi connections.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 will have strong competition this year from the recently announced HTC One, iPhone 5 and Sony Xperia Z. Motorola is also working hard with Google on a next-gen X-Phone which can be one of the biggest rivals of S4.It seems like Samsung is not concerned about its competitors as it is expecting sales of 100 million through Galaxy SIV alone.By Nick K Thomas
