Major Smartphone Competitors

With smartphones always changing and adapting, lets look at some of the major companies' best phones and take a quick look at how they compare. We'll take a quick look at the Apple iPhone 5, the HTC One, the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note II. Most of these phone will allow you to do the same functions and offer similar or identical applications. The major differences separating these revolve around the hardware options, the operating system, and carrier prices.
While the Apple iPhone 5 and the Blackberry Z10 are small enough to use on one hand, the HTC One, the Samsung Galaxy S4, and Galaxy Note II are really two handed devices with the Galaxy Note II really being more of a pad device. The iPhone 5 is 4", the HTC 1 4.7", the Galaxy S4 5", and the Galaxy Note II a gigantic 5.5". All are touchscreen for easy use. Choosing which one you need really depends on your personal choice and how you will use it. Are you going to watch movies or write long messages or do you need it to fit easily in your pocket. If you don't want to use two hands you'll have to go with the iPhone 5 or Blackberry Z10.
The operating system is one of the most significant factors in determining how easy the phone will be to use, what application options you will have, and how much you will enjoy the experience. Apple uses the iPhone OS which is often chosen as the easiest to use but the most proprietary in that it forces you to buy everything from Apple. It has loads and loads of applications and is user friendly. One problem associated with it is that new iPhones come out and people update their old phone to the new OS with bad results. Google produces the Android OS that is used widely by many phone companies such as the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note II, and the HTC One.
Other Criteria to Consider
When choosing your phone you must research other criteria as well which may change depending on your location. First, what will the carrier prices and data packages be in your area? What are the capabilities of the processor? Are you interested in the special features that each phone offers and will they suit your purposes? An extremely important thing to consider is the battery life. Both the HTC One and the Galaxy S4 have good battery life but the Galaxy Note II has a whopping 10 hours or more. Finally keep an eye out for special deals. While the iPhone rarely offers discounts, other companies often have special offers that make them much more affordable, especially around the holidays.
